Planting

Planting is one of Buka Forestry's core operations, backed by approximately 4 million trees of practical commercial planting experience.

We undertake restock and new planting across mounded, scarified, unprepared and flat sites, including mixed-species planting and both cell-grown and bare-root trees.

Work is carried out to the specified stocking density, species mix, boundaries and planting requirements. Our experience includes open sites without obvious reference points such as existing crop lines or regular ground preparation. On these sites, the team works systematically to establish and maintain the required planting pattern and spacing.

Planting quality is checked during delivery, including planting depth, root position, firmness, planting position, spacing, tree condition, stocking and species boundaries.

Beat-up

Buka Forestry's team has experience across hundreds of hectares of beat-up work, ranging from low replacement percentages through to sites with higher tree mortality.

The aim is not simply to put replacement trees into the ground, but to restore the required stocking and species pattern as accurately as the existing site allows.

Tree Protection

Buka Forestry has practical experience installing approximately 100,000 stakes and tubes, together with vole guards, spirals and brushcutter screefs where specified.

Installation is carried out to the site specification and checked as work progresses.

Vegetation Management

Operations include pre- and post-planting vegetation control using appropriate manual, mechanical and herbicide application methods, depending on the site and specification. This includes vegetation clearance around establishing trees, regeneration removal, respacing, roadside and access clearance, and associated brushcutter and chainsaw work.

Pesticide & Repellent Application

Qualified operations include spot herbicide application, weevil control, Trico repellent treatment, stem injection, eco-plug treatment and targeted rhododendron treatment.

Qualifications represented within the team include PA1, PA6, PA6PP and PA6INJ. Applications are carried out to the product and site requirements, with relevant COSHH and environmental controls in place.

Fertiliser Application

Buka Forestry undertakes manual fertiliser application across commercial forestry sites, with ATV distribution used where appropriate. Application quantities and completed areas can be recorded and reported to the Forest Works Manager.

Forestry Maintenance & Additional Works

Buka Forestry also undertakes combinations of establishment and maintenance operations where several types of work are required on the same site.
