How the business developed
Buka Forestry was not built around winning a contract and then finding people to carry it out. The business developed from practical forestry work.
Buka Forestry Ltd was established by Raitis Buka following six years of hands-on experience in commercial forestry across the North of Scotland.
As the workload developed, people were added gradually to the team, with Raitis managing the work, equipment, training and day-to-day requirements. This continued for five years as a VAT-registered sole trader before Buka Forestry Ltd was established.
The business now has a core year-round operational team, additional experienced staff who return for the main planting seasons, and dedicated operations and administrative support.

A growing forestry business
Buka Forestry continues to grow, but the objective is not simply to become bigger.
Growth is based around maintaining the ability to deliver work properly, communicate clearly with Forest Works Managers and support the people carrying out the work.
The business has developed its own systems for health and safety, environmental management, training, quality control, site records and administration alongside its operational capacity.
